Deer River Boy & Girls Club and Grand Rapids Area YMCA are teaming up with BRIDGES for a wonderful after school mentoring experience for young people grades 2nd-9th.

We are connecting youth with caring adults in two public spaces where the match can choose which days they are going to meet and what they are going to do among the activities available at the site.

  • This is how it works

    •  Mentors meet with their mentees afterschool for an average of 1-2  hours each week over      the school year (4-6 hours a month).

    • The meetings take place ONLY at the YMCA facility or the Deer River High School and allow the mentor and mentee to build a friendship while doing activities like...

      • Work on home work Play games

      • Use the Y facilities with a special mentoring pass

      • Guardians will need to arrange for transportation to and from the YMCA. The mentor cannot transport the child.

      • The program is typically available during the school year.

Mentors Help With...

  • Communication skills while they chat about issues young people face.

  • Recognize and help with negative behavior.

  • New interests.
